The recent cull in the number of cash back deals has meant that such initiatives have become few and far between for customers.
With a number of zero per cent deals also being cut, the market is changing somewhat, but one of the few companies left on the market offering cash back has suggested this will hand them the initiative when attempting to attract card customers.
Morgan Stanley's platinum credit card currently offers two per cent cash back on all purchases until May 1st 2006.
"At the moment most credit card companies are cutting their cash back deals. There are very few left now," a spokesman for the card issuer said.
"About two years ago there were at least twenty cards with cash back, but now you could probably count them on one hand. By offering cash back we are rewarding customers and seeking to keep them longer."
By looking to keep their customers for longer, the company is also attempting to challenge the rate tarts, the people who jump from one interest free period to the next.
