Christmas car insurance forgetfulness

Christmas car insurance forgetfulness
Privilege, the car insurance provider, has said that many drivers forget to renew their car insurance policies when the renewal date falls at this time of year.

The car insurance company says that due to the Christmas onslaught of cards and the busy nature of the festive period, car insurance renewal forms can often get overlooked.

"Christmas can be a busy time and, amidst all the excitement, it is easy to overlook chores such as renewing your car insurance. But forgetting to do so can have serious and expensive consequences," said Ian Parker, managing director of Privilege Insurance.

The company also warns drivers that there is no grace period for car insurance, so if your cover expires over Christmas, it is illegal to take your car on the road.

"A quick call to your insurer, and perhaps one or two others for comparison, will enable you to relax and enjoy the rest of the festivities knowing that you will be covered should you be unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident come the new year," Mr Parker said.

Privilege says that according to the Department of Transport, 34,000 accidents took place in December and January last year, meaning car insurance renewals should be a high priority around this period.
