Brits traditionally spend a lot of money at this time of year on both Christmas presents and the post-Christmas retail sales, but Legal & General has warned that the extra contents most be covered by the relevant insurance.
"At a time of year when people are adding numerous new valuables to their home, we are keen that everyone checks they have enough insurance cover and, if they buy insurance based on price, that they know the limits of the product they are buying," said Garry Skelton, marketing director, Legal & General Insurance.
"It's ok to shop around for a good deal on your insurance, but you should also be aware that the cheapest cover may mean that you do not have cover you actual may need."
A survey by Legal & General Insurance found that of the top ten things people buy depending on price, 26 per cent said they bought travel insurance by price (sixth out of ten) and 23 per cent said they did the same for home contents insurance (ninth out of ten).
Top of the table was flights, with 44 per cent saying they bought by price.
