Halifax Home Insurance has carried out a survey of Britons that found that home insurance was vital, with 5 million Brits feeling that other people's Christmas lights are a real fire hazard.
The fact that so many people are finding Christmas decorations too much suggests there is a greater risk of fire, meaning home insurance becomes even more vital during December.
"Every Christmas we receive thousands of phone calls from customers who have had fire damage to their properties," said Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter at Halifax Home Insurance.
"A large proportion of these claims can be attributed to faulty Christmas lights."
The survey found that 14 million Britons thought their neighbourhood's Christmas lights had gone over the top, and that over 1.5 million said that the lights had had an adverse affect on their sleep, their family's stress levels or their relationship with their neighbours.
