Home sweet home top priority for Brits
People in Britain would like to have more disposable income to spend on home improvements, according to new research.

A survey by NatWest Mortgage Services revealed that around a third of Britons would by a house or move up the property ladder if they were more financially secure.

In addition, 23 per cent would invest in a holiday home abroad, and 21 per cent would make additions to their current property.

The study also found that most UK homeowners do not feel the need to spend much time researching different mortgage deals, with 45 per cent of people who arranged a mortgage in the last five years spending less than a week shopping around.

Director of NatWest mortgages, Charles Haresnape, said: "People are becoming much more astute when it comes to buying property and finding a mortgage, and clearly a lot more demanding in bagging the right deal.

"They also want flexibility from the products they choose and for couples looking for mortgage harmony, choosing a product such as an offset mortgage can fulfil the needs of changing circumstances."
