Insurance needed for show offs and stunt skiers
British skiers often seem to be the architects of their own downfalls when it comes to the winter sport, according to the latest research.

Direct Line Travel Insurance found that many Britons take risks or show off when skiing, which can ultimately lead to an accident on the piste and the need for an insurance claim.

"The very nature of skiing and snowboarding means you're putting yourself at a greater risk than you would be on a beach holiday. It's important not to take unnecessary risks, though, whether by tackling runs that are too difficult for you or not preparing yourself physically in advance," said Chris Price, head of Direct Line Travel Insurance.

"We would certainly advise all skiers and snowboarders to be aware of their limitations, start exercising well in advance of their holiday, and to make sure they are insured in case anything does happen."

Research showed that 71 per cent of Brits admitted they attempt runs that are too difficult for them to handle, while seven per cent say they show off in an attempt to impress someone.

Unsurprisingly, nine per cent of Brits questioned said they had had an accident while skiing, which stresses the need for adequate travel insurance.
