Jargon-busting pension guide launched
A new jargon-busting guide is now available to help the general public with any confusion over the government pension fund.

The National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) has today announced the creation of a plain-speaking user guide for the government's Pensions Protection Fund (PPF).

It is the latest in a range of what the NAPF has called its Made Simple guides, aimed to allow people to understand financial matters they may not already firmly grasp.

"They [the guides] aim to cut through the jargon and set out in clear and accessible terms key aspects of the pensions system. This guide will be invaluable to trustees, employers and pension professionals," said Joanne Segars, NAPF director of policy.

"The UK pension system is probably the most complex in the world, and much of it is tied up in impenetrable red tape and complicated legislative language."

The Plain English Campaign has granted the NAPF guide the Crystal Mark, an award introduced to encourage organisations to communicate clearly with the public.

The government's PPF was set up to pay compensation to people who invested in a pension that had insufficient initial funds, or where the employer went into insolvency.
