The Direct Saver Plus (issue five) is officially launched on Saturday, paying an interest rate of 4.60 per cent gross pa until April 1st 2007.
"This is the fifth issue of our Direct Saver Plus account which has previously been very popular with customers," said Karen Wint, head of marketing.
"The guaranteed rate combined with access to funds without notice or penalty are winners and many customers see this account as an integral part of their investment portfolio."
The minimum operating balance on the account is £5,000, with a maximum balance of £1 million. No penalty is carried for withdrawals at anytime providing the withdrawal is a minimum of £1,000.
An added incentive for customers is that if the Bank of England's base rate – currently 4.25 per cent – rises above 4.60 per cent, interest on the Direct Saver Plus will revert to the base rate.
The building society, which operates 58 branches UK-wide, is the country's eighth largest, with assets of over £6.7 billion.
