Attic may contain some uninsured priceless pieces

Monday, November 7, 2005

An insurance company has advised people to check the value of the contents in their attic to make sure they have adequate insurance.

Saga has advised that in the current climate, with memorabilia from the 1950s, 60s and 70s becoming increasingly valuable and collectable, many people could be underestimating the value of their home contents.

"Often the most unexpected items turn out to be valuable," said Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga.

"If your possessions are undervalued, you could find that you receive only a fraction of their worth in the event of theft or damage."

This has prompted the company to upgrade its single item limit from £1,000 to £2,500, which Saga claims is one of the best on the market.

The call from the insurer for people to check their home contents insurance comes following a similar statement last week, when insuresupermarket.com reminded people that the value of possessions in their home rises around Christmas time.
