Text message ordering for chequebooks introduced
Lloyds TSB have embraced modern culture's fascination with, and dependence on, mobile phones by introducing a new service that utilises the technology.

From today, personal, business banking and corporate customers can send the bank a text message requesting a new paying in book or chequebook whenever they want.

"Mobile phones have become an integral part of people's lives and we seem to be using them more and more," said Matthew Timms, internet and ATM director at Lloyds TSB.

"With time at a premium we are sure that this new service will prove popular, helping customers to keep on top of those small tasks like ordering a cheque book which can easily fall by the wayside on a busy day."

By texting CHQ (for a chequebook) and PIB (for a paying in book), the customer should receive the requested item within four working days.

A section on Lloyds TSB's website says that they are "only just beginning to develop the potential of text message banking", suggesting the bank wants to integrate more services this way.

According to Ofcom data, there had been over 54 million mobile phone subscriptions in the UK up to the end of the first quarter of 2004.
