The research by the credit card issuer found that the average annual credit card bill for wedding expenses such as gifts, clothes, travel and food and drink, totalled £292.
"With some of us attending five or six weddings this year, it is worth considering how we can spend intelligently on our credit cards," said Patrcik Muir, Morgan Stanley Credit Card marketing director.
"Savings can be made by doubling up on wedding outfits, sharing the cost of the gift with friends or using a card that offers cashback."
The over 50s are the biggest users of a credit card to pay for wedding expenses, with family and friends of those getting married spending an average of £558 on each ceremony they attend.
Credit card borrowing in general is now believed to total £55 billion in the UK, according to the latest reports.
